If you’re been watching my videos for a while, you’ll know that I am 100% a foodie. I often film my journey for tasty snacks and share the vocabulary I use so that you can learn the language you need to fill your belly with all the delicious local foods.
This week we’ll be learning how to say flatbread with accompanying vocabulary so you can use Chinese like a pro.
Basic Vocabulary
Chinese flatbread
饼
bǐng
What is this?
这是什么?
zhè shì shén me?
What is_____?
什么叫______?
shén me jiào?
I’d like two kuai of the bing
来两块这病吧
lái liǎng kuài zhè bǐng ba
The Go-To Phrase
No matter what, start with zhè shì shén me to learn a little more vocabulary. They will then tell you in Chinese what the object you’re pointing to is called.
If you’re stuck with the words they say back to you, pick out a few and ask them shén me jiào _______? Fill the gap with whatever phrase or word they just said.
Maybe you don’t know the words they use, you could be completely lost in the conversation. But, that’s not the point. The point is to get your ears accustomed to local Chinese dialects, the natural way of speaking, and your mouth used to talking with Chinese people.
