CHINA VPN
Express VPN. Their marketing is good. But, how well does it work here in China?
Read the opinions or listen to them as I read them (in the video) from my followers on Instagram in China.
Read real opinions below..
It really is complicated here in China with VPNs. The Chinese government is consistently trying to stop VPNs. So, the bigger companies like Express, Astrill, and Nord VPN have more resources to dodge, bob, and weave through the Great Firewall of China.
What VPN I Use
Astrill VPN is the VPN I use, and the only VPN I’ve used since I quit my day job last year to start bringing you content full-time.
This is the VPN I use. It’s super stable for me here in Tianjin. Sometimes it cuts out when I travel to Beijing. Not stable for everyone.
Real Honest Opinions
Fionrich says:
“Most people I know use Express.”
Rachyk says:
“Express VPN works on my laptop and iPad. VPNmaster works flawlessly on iPhone.”
I quizzed her a little as Express have a pretty decent iPhone and Android APP. She said, “Express just isn’t as reliable on iPhone recently.”
Bamsworldd says:
“Nowadays they should be careful because of the American conflict with China. Express is not reliable but most of the time is working very well, either on laptop or smartphone.”
Wendy says:
“We like it. They often have to work out kinks. But compared to what other expat friends have shared about other companies, Express is more efficient.”

Den says:
“Express VPN, on the contrary, provide their customers with troubleshooting advice when connectivity is impacted.”
As for VPN functionality, he says: “It has many servers all over the world. But, what’s more important is that the speed is fast enough to stream YouTube. The only disadvantage is the price.”
That’s the cool aspect of Express VPN. It’s right on your phone. It tells you the other servers to pick or the best active ones right now. If something is going down they tell you what’s wrong and that they’re working on it. It gives you peace of mind.
Price comparison
Let me tell you the prices of all three top VPNs so you have a benchmark of what you’re likely to pay per year or per month.
$8.32 per month
1-year contract
$8.33 per month
1-year contract
$6.99 per month
1-year contract
Most people use Express VPN. Lot’s use Astrill in China, including me. And, some use Nord VPN, which is hit and miss, but Nord is the cheapest.
There are also free VPNs. But the thing with free is they limit your data usage or you can’t see Netflix at all or you don’t have many different servers so that when they experience downtime too, there is actually no way to connect to a different server.
Varsha says:
“Honestly it seems to be the best one around. It gives good updates and seems to be the only one that works here in Deching.
Does Location Matter?
And, so you see, that’s the thing with VPNs. They are different depending on where you connect. I did a VPN round-up where I ask what the most popular VPN was among my Instagram followers.
