Does Express VPN Work in China in 2019?
The quick answer is: it depends!
In January 2019 I had around 16.9K followers on Instagram who live in China. I asked them what they think about Express VPN. I’ll detail their responses below.

“Very reliable, good value for money, 24-hour help service is great.”
“Works well most of the time, got blocked last week (June 2019) but the problem was quickly fixed.”
“It connects the fastest but it gets blocked a lot, sometimes for a couple of days.”
“It’s not consistent lately. There are different locations to switch to and others are faster. Messing with it here and there is better than no VPN.”
“It was great when I arrived ten months ago but more recently it’s been much less reliable.”
“Express VPN is very reliable, it doesn’t work when political events are on but that’s normal. It’s fast and has a good support team.”
“Most people I know use Express.”
The Chinese government actively blocks VPN’s so most users experience some sort of outage or slowing down at one point or another.
I do use Astrill VPN, and from asking all my followers on Instagram Astrill has actually performed the best but for some reason, their marketing isn’t as good and they don’t currently have a one-month free trial.
