How do you figure out what those characters on signs mean??
Increase your awareness of characters all around us.
I aim for this by picking out higher frequency characters that show up pretty regularly on signs. Then YOU keep your eyes open throughout the day and when you see the character, take a picture of it and put it in our group!
Everyone learns a foundational component of Chinese.
Like in basketball, you can get pretty good just by drilling the basics: shooting, dribbling and teamwork.
Beginners benefit from the accessibility of the challenge-searching for characters and taking pictures. More advanced members are enriched by attempting to accurately explain all the signs we discover!
Screenshot or copy anything that helps you. I encourage you to take it to your Chinese friends, tutors, or teachers to further your learning.

This WeChat group is only for Expats currently working in China who are beginners. The WeChat groups require participation which is only available if you are based in China. If you do not fall into this category, please visit speakeverydaychinese.com
That’s the best option for you. It’s a growing library of useful videos for day-to-day life with audio practice. And, dare I say it, it’s more affordable than my WeChat groups.
Character Hunt WeChat group membership prices:
Three-month membership: ¥450 (¥150 per month – a saving of ¥150)
Month by month membership: ¥200
We all level up our understanding of everyday Chinese signs!
The Great Firewall of China
Want to use the VPN I use for a stable, quick connection in China? I depend on it to upload more than six videos a week and live-stream on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. And here’s my second choice for a VPN. Plus, when you download from either link, they share some of the cost with me, so I can keep creating the videos you love.
